Calvin's Witte Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Accolades

Jacob Witte, a junior midfielder on the Calvin men's soccer team, garnered one of the top academic and athletic honors Tuesday as he was named a First-Team Academic All-American by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Witte's honor marks the second consecutive year an MIAA men's soccer player earned Academic All-America accolades; Albion's Andrew Prince was a Third Team selection in 2016. It is the first First Team selection for the MIAA since the 2013-14 academic year, when Travis Vegter was honored.

The accolade is the first national academic honor for Witte, who has also earned MIAA Academic Honor Roll recognition twice. In 2017, Witte tallied 11 goals and 11 assists for 33 points to aid Calvin in posting a 21-1-1 record. The native of Grand Rapids, Mich., boasts a 3.88 grade-point average in Speech Pathology.

Student-athletes must have sophomore academic standing at their institutions and have a cumulative grade-point average at 3.30 or higher and been a first-team academic all-district selection to move onto the national ballot.
