With two MIAA competition dates on the table for last week, wins - specifically, road wins - are a valued commodity. Three teams captured victories on the road last week:
• Albion was less than 90 seconds away from a pair of MIAA shutouts, as the Brits moved into second place in the conference standings with their 2-0 week. At Adrian Sept. 21, Albion scored midway through the first half and added a second strike less than two minutes into the second half to take the lead before conceeding a goal in the 89th minute during their 2-1 win; Justin Kraft (Jr., GK, Traverse City, Mich.) thwarted eight shots in the game. Against Alma Sept. 24, Steven Lockhart (Sr., M, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) and Bobby Budlong (Sr., M, Canton, Mich.) scored in the first and second halves, respectively, while Kraft made three saves.
• #15 Calvin vented their frustration from dropping in the national polls with two convincing wins against MIAA challengers. The Knights started with a 4-0 win over Kalamazoo Sept. 21, as four different players scored in the contest; Ian Adams (Fr., M, Grand Rapids, Mich.) assisted on the game-winner in the 28th minute before adding his own goal in the 36th minute. In their 7-0 home win over Olivet Sept. 24, Calvin scoring went to 10 players, including Ben Mast (Fr., D, Grand Haven, Mich.) and his two-assist effort.
• Alma nabbed a road win at Olivet Sept. 21, as Noah Canlas (Fr., M, Naperville, Ill.) scored twice in the first 13 minutes of the game to pace the Scots.
• Kalamazoo recovered from their 4-0 setback to nationally-ranked Calvin Sept. 21 with their first win of the season by defeating Trine on the road Sept. 24, 2-0. Griffin Hamel (Jr., GK, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) stopped six shots for the shutout.
