Men's golf wrapped up the MIAA fall season with the MIAA Fall Tournament at Battle Creek Country Club in Battle Creek, Mich., Oct. 7-8.
• During Friday's round, just three strokes separated Calvin, Hope, and Kalamazoo battled for the weekend's top spot. Calvin's John Van Noord (Jr., Troy, Mich.) led the way with a two-under 70, while Hope's Noah Weigle (Fr., Grandville, Mich.) also was two-under as an individual. Kalamazoo's David Smith (Sr., Highland, Mich.) was tied for fourth with a one-over 73 to aid the Hornets on their home course.
• On Saturday, Calvin's Ben VanScoyk (Jr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) took medalist honors by shooting a one-under 71 to finish the two-day event at an even-par 71. But team honors went to Hope, as the Flying Dutchmen turned in a 295 team score to edge the field by six strokes; Andrew Goble (So, Brighton, Mich.) and Winton Munch (Sr., Traverse City, Mich.) each shot even-par 72s to lead Hope on Saturday.
Coupled with their victory on the weekend and their performances throughout the fall, Hope finished as the fall team champion. Joining Hope in the top four for the fall season were Calvin, Kalamazoo, and Trine. The four teams will compete this spring to determine the MIAA automatic qualifier for the 2017 NCAA Men's Golf Championship.
