Hope, Calvin to Challenge for MIAA Men's Basketball Title Saturday

HOLLAND, Mich. - Semifinal action for the 2017 MIAA Men's Basketball Tournament concluded Friday, with Calvin and SOMEBODY advancing to Saturday's championship game at 7:30 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Calvin 75, Trine 64 | PDF Box Score

Calvin (16-10) dominated the paint both offensively and defensively as the Knights out-scored Trine 48-24 in the paint while out-rebounding the Thunder 47-29 in Calvin's 75-64 semifinal victory. Michael Wilks had 12 of his team-tying high 20 points in the second half, while Nick Kronemeyer came off the bench for 20 points. Michael Welch registered a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds as a reserve for Calvin. Trine (14-12) was led by Adam Ciszewski and Will Dixon, who each had 15 points in the setback. 

Hope 63, Alma 45 | PDF Box Score

The Flying Dutchmen (21-5) forced 26 Alma miscues which resulted in 23 points off turnovers as nationally-ranked Hope stymied Alma 63-45 in the second semifinal. After receiving his MIAA Most Valuable Player plaque prior to the contest, Harrison Blackledge showed his merit with a game-high 30 points, including 12-for-12 from the free throw line to lead Hope. Blackledge added eight rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot on the night. Alma (12-14) tried to pull close throughout the second half, but Hope responded with runs of their own to keep the Scots at arm's length. Alma was led by a 10-point, 12-rebound night from Tyler Edwards.
