Balanced Britons

TIFFIN, Ohio – Albion College placed five players in double figures as it improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 81-70 victory over Heidelberg University in non-league men's basketball action.

Robert Ryan achieved a career-high 17 points, hitting 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Travell Oakes chipped in with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Corey Wheeler knocked down 6-of-10 shots for 13 points, Jason Zahran produced a career-high 11 off the bench and Jordan Herron turned in a solid all-around game with 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Oakes and Ryan led Albion on a 6-0 run as the Britons forged a 28-18 lead with 7 ½ minutes left in the first half. Albion maintained at least a five-point cushion the rest of the way and it led by as many as 15 in the second half.

"We've got good players and some depth," Head Coach Jody May said. "I don't know who is going to provide the scoring.

"Heidelberg wanted to play at a fast pace and cause havoc," May added. "I was pleased with the way we kept our head. The best teams can play at different speeds and still be successful."

Albion will take some time off for Thanksgiving before returning to practice in preparation for a Dec. 1 date at Wright State University.
