Adrian (4-6, 2-5)
Freshman Clarence Madison caught a career-best three touchdown passes on game highs of seven receptions for 81 yards, but it wasn't enough as the Adrian College football squad gave nationally-ranked Trine a scare before falling 42-27 in MIAA action Nov. 10.
Albion (7-3, 4-3)
Checking Albion among the NCAA statistical leaders for Division III: second in first downs (273), fourth in total offense (534 yards/game), 12th in scoring offense (44 points/game) and 16th in rushing offense (265/game)…Individually, K Andrew Fabry (Grosse Pointe South, Mich.) is fourth in field goal percentage (.909) and 17th in field goals made per game; QB Kyle Thomas (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) is eighth in points responsible for (216) and 18th in total offense (299.4 yards/game); DE Mitchell Arendsen (Zeeland, Mich./Holland Christian) is 17th in sacks and 20th in tackles for loss…Thomas and TE Brian Blanzy (Grosse Ponte South, Mich.) hooked up for a 93-yard touchdown reception against Olivet, matching the longest reception in Albion history and the eighth-longest in Division III this season.
Alma (2-8, 1-6)
The Alma College football team defeated Finlandia 37-0 on Saturday (Nov. 10) to close the 2018 regular season. The Scots amassed 233 rushing yards, the second-most in any game this season, and held the Lions to 163 yards of total offense. Senior running back Brenden Newvine (Clarkston, Mich./Notre Dame Prep) set career-highs with three rushing touchdowns and 87 yards. Junior linebacker Zeke Ramirez (Homer, Mich./Homer) had an interception returned for a touchdown, the first of his career.
Finlandia (0-10, 0-7)
Dillion Huecksteadt had 21 tackles, his fourth 20+ tackle game of the season, in Finlandia's contest against Alma Nov. 10.
RV/NR Hope (8-2, 6-1)
The Hope College football team made its mark with a season-ending, 33-14 victory at Adrian College Nov. 10. The Flying Dutchmen became the third in team history to post back-to-back, eight-win seasons. They joined Hope teams from the 1974 and 1975 seasons and the 1958 and 1959 seasons. Hope has gone 8-2 in consecutive seasons. Seventeen seniors led that charge for the Flying Dutchmen, a group that includes the likes of defensive end Tate Knapp of Dorr, Michigan (Hamilton) and running back Mike Miklusicak of Wayland, Michigan (Wayland). Knapp recorded a team-high eight tackles two sacks. He also was involved with a first-quarter safety that gave Hope a 2-0 lead. He concluded the season with a career-high and MIAA-leading 12 sacks. Miklusicak rushed for 95 yards on 23 carries. He concluded his Flying Dutchmen career with 2,274 rushing yards — seventh-most in team history.
Kalamazoo (7-3, 4-3)
The Kalamazoo College football team lost its season finale 48-18 to No. 12/13 Trine University on Senior Day. Zach VanFaussien finished 16-of-35 passing for 160 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Sam Matthews led the Hornet receivers with five catches for 62 yards. Anthony Giovanni had five catches for 56 yards. Dylan Padget finished with 50 yards on four catches. Jake Osen led the Kalamazoo defense with nine total tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. Matt Ford had eight tackles while Jacob Chantres finished with six, including two for lost yardage. Kalamazoo finished the season 7-3 overall, the program's most wins since 1962. The Hornets tied for third place in the MIAA with a 4-3 league record.
Olivet (6-4, 4-3)
The Olivet College football team ended its season with a 35-19 loss at Albion. Matthew Ellis and Jamaul Martin finished the season with 1,075 and 1,054 rushing yards, respectively, to become the first teammates to rush for more than 1,000 yards in the same season. Ellis scored 84 points in 2018 to tie for the second-most points in school history for a season. Douglas Pollard finished the season with 44 PAT kicks and seven field goals for the second-most points scored by a kickker in a season. Saturday's game was also the final game for 20 seniors. Lane Porter ended his Comet career with the second-most passing yards in Olivet history, and Jacob Jodway had the fourth-most receiving yards in school history.
