D3football.com Names Trine Trio as All-Americans

After garnering First-Team All-Region accolades from D3football.com, Trine's trio of Lamar Carswell (Sr., RB, Toledo, Ohio), Jeffery Barnett (Sr., KR, Fremont, Ohio), and Marcus Winters (Sr., CB, Toledo, Ohio) represented the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association as selections to the national online publication's All-America teams, announced Dec. 14.

In aiding Trine to a 10-1 record in 2018, the Trine seniors received Third-Team All-America honors; the Thunder made their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Football Championships this past fall.

Carswell established a new MIAA single-game standard in yards rushing in a game when he rushed for 359 yards in Trine's regular season finale against Kalamazoo. For the year, Carswell led the nation with 2,294 yards rushing to go with 32 rushing touchdowns.

Barnett's all-around abilities on both special teams and offense aided the Thunder in 2018, with three kickoff returns for touchdowns in 11 games. Offensively, Barnett tallied a team-best 35 receptions for 719 yards and four touchdowns.

Winters, named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, was part of a defense that finished the 2018 campaign ranked 11th nationally in yards allowed per game (147.5). Winters tallied 33 tackles to go with three interceptions.
