Adrian, Hope Set to Contend for MIAA Baseball Tournament Title

In the first day of action of the 2018 MIAA Baseball Tournament, top-seeded Adrian and No. 2 seed Alma both gathered home wins to stay in the winners' bracket and will face each other Thursday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at Adrian's Nicolay Field. Calvin and Hope will play in the first elimination game Thursday at 2 p.m. 

Game #3: Adrian 5, Alma 4 | Adrian recap

Adrian's Hunter Hayes hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning to aid the Bulldogs in their 5-4 win over Alma Thursday afternoon. After the Bulldogs added single runs in the top of the second and fourth innings, Alma answered with a three-run fifth, with three RBI singles plating runs for the Scots. Following Hayes' home run, Frank Resto added an RBI single in the same inning. On the mound, Adrian's Pierce Banks posted the win while Jordan Williams wrapped up the contest with a two-inning save.

Game #4: Hope 5, Calvin 4 | Hope recap

Hope's four-run fourth inning helped lift the Flying Dutchmen to a 5-4 elimination game win over Calvin Thursday afternoon. Leadoff batter Evan Maday went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI in the win for Hope. Starting pitcher Connor Grimes struck out two in six innings of work, while CJ Otteman tallied his fifth save of the season.

Game #5: Hope 5, Alma 3 | Hope recap

With the tying run on first, Hope's CJ Otteman gathered his second save of the day with a game-ending double play strikeout with catcher Trace Slancik firing to second to catch Alma stealing in the ninth to push the Flying Dutchmen into Friday's championship game. Hope's Matt VanDyken threw 8 1/3 for the win, striking out six. Mason Opple led Hope at the plate with a 4-for-4 game with a run while Jordan Fairchild went 3-for-4 with two runs.
