The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the student-athletes selected as Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on January 20, 2019.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by a panel of MIAA Sports Information Directors, including the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
Langston Johnson, Trine
Junior, Guard
Elkhart, Ind.
Johnson assisted Trine to a 2-0 week to move into a tie for first place in the MIAA race. Johnson started with a 16-point, seven-assist effort in Trine's 79-71 win at Albion Jan. 16 to hand the Britons their first conference setback of the season; Johnson added four rebounds in the win. Then, in Trine's 74-63 victory against Kalamazoo Jan. 19, Johnson tallied 17 points, bolstered by a 10-for-10 effort at the free throw line, to go with nine assists, three rebounds, and one steal. Johnson went 15-of15 from the free throw line for the week.
Jade Mosier, Saint Mary's
Junior, Guard/Forward
Buchanan, Mich.
Mosier scored a career-high 31 points to go with a game-high 10 rebounds and career-high six assists in Saint Mary's 76-69 road win over Calvin Jan. 19. In that game, Mosier went 13-of-20 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point range; the junior also tallied two steals and a blocked shot. Against nationally-ranked Hope Jan. 16, Mosier just missed a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds while notching two steals and one block.
Nicholas Jackson, Adrian
Sophomore
Champaign, Ill.
Jackson cleared 2.02m in the high jump at the Tiffin Open Jan. 18, which, along with teammate Daz Lawrence, tied for sixth in NCAA Division III and first in the MIAA. Jackson earned the event win due to fewer scratches than Lawrence.
Justin Freeman, Hope
Senior
Holland, Mich.
Freeman won the 60m dash at the Grand Valley State Lints Alumni Open Jan. 19, defeating 34 competitors in all three NCAA divisions with a time of 6.93 in the finals after posting a 6.98 in the qualifying round. Freeman's time is not only a Hope record, but is ranked tied for sxith nationally and first in the MIAA.
Lillian Albaugh, Olivet
Sophomore
Shepherd, Mich.
Albaugh turned in an Olivet record in the shot put for the second consecutive week, throwing for 12.94m at Saginaw Valley State's Doug Hansen Open to rank first in the MIAA, 14th in NCAA Division III and take second overall at the meet. Albaugh added a mark of 11.98m in the weight throw to take 18th overall.
Britney Carnagie, Adrian
Sophomore
Macomb, Mich.
Carnagie placed second in the 60m hurdles at the Tiffin Dragon Open Jan. 18, finishing in 9.55 in the finals as the top Division III competitor. Carnagie's time ranks first in the MIAA by 0.33 seconds.
Jake Burris, Albion

Chelsea, Mich.
Burris was a two-time winner in Albion's win over No. 25 Wabash Jan. 19. Burris posted a score of 330.70 on the 1-meter board and added a 323.35 score on the 3-meter board.
Ben Holstege, Calvin

Keswick, Va.
Holstege was a four-time winner in Calvin's win over Rose-Hulman Jan. 19, with individual wins in the 100 fly (51.13) and 100 back (49.83); his backstroke time was four seconds faster than any MIAA swimmer competing last week. Holstege started the meet with a 23.09 leadoff backstroke in the 200 Medley Relay and had a 20.99 split on the second leg of the 200 Free Relay.

Joseyln Smith, Calvin

Zeeland, Mich.
Smith tallied two victories in Calvin's win over Rose-Hulman Jan. 19 with personal bests on both boards. Smith won the 1-meter with a score of 292.15 while posting a 296.60 on the 3-meter board.
Paige Kuhn, Hope
Freshman
Hamilton, Mich.
Kuhn won the 1650 free in Hope's 163-134 dual win over Kalamazoo Jan. 19, touching first in 18:11.26 for the fastest non-rested time in the MIAA this season and second fastest overall. Kuhn's first 1,000 was clocked at 11:03, which is the fastest in the MIAA this season.
Devon Pingel, Adrian

Lapeer, Mich.
Pingel went 2-0 in a pair of Adrian duals last week, starting with a fall in 1:19 over Trine's Luke Carver Jan. 15 to help Adrian to their first MIAA win. Pingel then registered a 22-2 technical fall (2:54) over Case Western Reserve's Brian Kent Jan. 17.
