The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the student-athletes selected as Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on January 13, 2019.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by a panel of MIAA Sports Information Directors, including the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
Riley Lewis, Hope
Junior, Guard
Williamston, Mich.
Lewis averaged 22.5 points per game in two MIAA contests, including Hope's 76-68 win over Adrian Jan. 12. Lewis tallied 25 points thanks to 9-of-17 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 from three-point range, while adding five assists and three rebounds in the win over the Bulldogs. Against Calvin Jan. 9, Lewis led Hope with a team-best 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three-point distance.
Rain Hinton, Albion
Sophomore, Forward/Center
Fort Wayne, Ind.
Hinton fueled Albion to two MIAA wins, averaging 20.0 points and 8.5 rebounds on the week. In Albion's 88-62 win over Calvin Jan. 9, Hinton had game-highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. On the road against Alma Jan. 12, Hinton tallied 18 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one blocked shot in the Briton's 75-55 victory.
Noah Bailey, Olivet
Junior
Lenox, Mich.
Bailey finished first among NCAA Division III competitors and second overall in the triple jump at the Jack Skoog Open Jan. 11, hitting 14.38m for the third-best effort thus far this season in NCAA Division III and set an Olivet record with his mark. Bailey also turned in an effort of 6.46m in the long jump, good for second-best in the MIAA, second overall at the meet, and first among NCAA Division III competitors.
Tim Minier, Alma
Sophomore
Battle Creek, Mich.
Minier had three Division III wins at the Jack Skoog Open Jan. 11, helping Alma take the team title. Minier finished the 60m dash in 7.29 seconds and then turned in a time of 23.95 seconds in the 200m dash; Minier's time moved him into fifth in the MIAA. Minier also ran a leg on the 4x400m relay (55.14).
Erin Goggins, Alma

Hastings, Mich.
Goggins finished first among NCAA Division III competitors in the pole vault at the Jack Skoog Open Jan. 11 with a season-best mark of 3.20m, tied for best among MIAA competitors this season. Goggins then competed in the triple jump for her collegiate debut, placing second with a distance of 9.33m. Goggins also added a win in the 200m dash (30.36).
Cassie Vince, Albion

Amherst, Ohio
Vince won the 3,000m run at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open Jan 11, beating the 35-runner field with a time of 9:39.35. Her time ranks first nationally by a margin of over 10 seconds and set an Albion record.
Grant Williams, Hope
Sophomore
East Grand Rapids, Mich.
Williams had season-best scores at Wabash Jan. 11 on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Williams posted a score of 292.75 on the 3-meter board, while registering a 291.65 on the 1-meter board to win both events in a four-team diving meet.
Daniel Keith, Hope
Sophomore
Saline, Mich.
Keith broke a 16-year meet record at the Wheaton Quad Meet Jan. 12, touching first in the 200 back with a time of 1:53.11 to win by five seconds and set the meet record by two seconds. Keith added a tie for first in the 50 free (21.57) and had a 100 fly split of 50.67 in the 400 medley relay.
MIAA Women's Diver of the Week
Joseyln Smith, Calvin
Sophomore
Zeeland, Mich.
Smith was a two-time winner in Calvin's meet against Albion Jan. 11. Smith posted a score of 219.55 on the 3-meter board and added a score of 247.95 on the 1-meter board.
Abby Brinks, Hope
Senior
Commerce Twp., Mich.
Brinks swam the 1000 free in an MIAA-fastest 11:07.02 at the Wheaton Quad Jan. 11 in a race that featured the second, fourth, and fifth-fastest times in the 1000 free this season in the MIAA. Brinks also anchored the winning 400 free relay (56.38) and added a sixth-place finish in the 100 free (58.58).
Trevor Piggott, Olivet
Sophomore, 285
Ionia, Mich.
Piggott, seeded No. 6 in a 32-wrestler field at the Cliff Kean-Mike Duroe Invitational Jan. 12, went 4-0 to take the 285-pound title at the elite event. Piggott started with a first-round pin (1:55) and then posted an 8-6 victory in the quarterfinals against No. 22 Robert Melise of Dubuque. Piggott then tallied a 7-4 semifinal win over Loras' Areon Day to set up a 4-3 victory over No. 11 Lucius Rhinehart of UW-Platteville.
