MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for March 27

On Monday, the MIAA awarded 14 weekly honors for standout performances in men's and women's lacrosse, baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's outdoor track and field.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for March 27 are:

• In overtime victory over the College of Wooster March 22, made 18 saves on 30 shots faced for a 60.0 save percentage

• Saves total was a career-best for a single-game effort

• Added four groundballs in the win

Offensive Player of the Week


Chase Hunyadi, Alma

Freshman, A
Pepper Pike, Ohio

• Had four goals and four assists, involving himself in eight of Alma's 13 goals, in overtime win against College of Wooster March 22

• Assisted on game-tying goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation while scoring game-winner in overtime

• In Alma's five final goals, scored three with two assists

Defensive Player of the Week


Cara Givens, Saint Mary's

Sophomore, GK
South Bend, Ind. 

• In two wins, posted a 44.7 save percentage for Saint Mary's

• Registered a career-high 12 saves in 17-16 overtime win at Illinois Tech March 21 to go with one ground ball

• Added nine saves in 16-10 win against Ohio Northern March 25

Offensive Player of the Week


Mary Singler, Saint Mary's

Freshman, M
Louisville, Ky.

• Totalled 15 points in two wins, including a seven goal, one assist effort in overtime win at Illinois Tech March 21; scored four goals in final three minutes of regulation

• Added seven goals against Ohio Northern March 25 with nine draw controls and four ground balls

Bloomington, Ill.

• In seven-inning contest at Oberlin March 22, threw a three-hit complete game shutout

• Struck out six in the contest with no walks for his first career win and first career complete game.

Ryan Dorow, Adrian

South Haven, Mich.

• Went 5-for-8 from the plate for a .625 batting average and 1.125 slugging percentage in two wins over MIAA foe Olivet March 24

• His home run in Adrian's 4-1 win over the Comets tied the Adrian record for career home runs (25)

• Extended current hitting streak to 10 games

Pitcher of the Week


Sydney Jones, Hope

Junior, P
South Lyon, Mich.

• Made four starts for Hope on the week, going 3-1 with four complete games with a 1.50 ERA and 28 strikeouts

• Against No. 8 UW-Eau Claire March 20, scattered five hits with six strikeouts in Hope's 3-2 victory

• In 5-0 win over No. 15 St. Catherine March 23, struck out six while walking just one in complete-game shutout

Position Player of the Week


Carly Bachna, Trine

Elyria, Ohio

• Went 6-for-6 in six plate appearances in doubleheader win over Anderson March 24 with a 1.667 slugging percentage

• Registered first career grand slam on the way to five RBI and two runs scored in 11-3 win

• Added a double and an RBI in 2-1 victory in the second game of the doubleheader

Allen Vinson, Kalamazoo

Tallahassee, Fla.

• Went 2-0 in singles against top 40 programs, winning at No. 6 singles (6-4, 6-3) against TCNJ and No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-2) versus New York University

• Added a 2-1 doubles record in three contests

Grand Blanc, Mich. 

• At No. 2 singles, went 3-0 with four 6-0 set victories to go with two set rallies from down 1-4 and 1-5 to win 6-4, 7-5 against Carthage March 20.

• Went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles

Athlete of the Week


Richard Annorant, Albion

Sophomore
Naples, Fla. 

• Was the top collegiate finisher in the high jump, finishing second with a mark of 1.99m, which is tied for the top mark in the MIAA this spring

• Also placed fifth in the 110m hurdles (15.54) for the best time in the MIAA; also ran on the 4x100m relay that placed third

Nick Salomon, Hope

Senior
Troy, Mich.

• Finished second in the 800m run with a time of 1:53.11 at the Emory University Classic March 24

• His time ranks first in the MIAA by over four seconds and fourth in the nation

Women's Outdoor Field

 

Athlete of the Week


Kara Eck, Trine

Junior
Auburn, Ind.

• Won both the shot put (13.87m) and hammer throw (48.80m) at the Cedarville Yellow Jacket Open

• Her distance for the shot put won by over one meter and ranks second nationally, just 0.01m behind the leader

• Her effort in the hammer throw ranks ninth in the nation

Women's Outdoor Track

 

Athlete of the Week


Kaitlyn Arnold, Alma

Senior
Jackson, Mich. 

• Won the 5000m run at the Cedarville Yellow Jacket Open, crossing with a time of 17:44.69 that was 21 seconds faster than second place and 13th nationally

• Followed up in the ensuing event, running the anchor of Alma's 4x400m relay to finish seventh
