MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for March 20

On Monday, the MIAA awarded 14 weekly honors for standout performances in men's and women's lacrosse, baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's outdoor track and field.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for March 20 are:

Defensive Player of the Week


Trevor McManus, Albion

• Posted two wins on the week with a 62.9 save percentage on the week

• In win over John Carroll March 15, made 14 saves on 20 shots faced while holding his opponent to one goal in each of the first 3 quarters

• Held Elmhurst scoreless in fourth quarter while amassing eight saves

Offensive Player of the Week


Bryce Bohrmann, Alma

Junior, A
Grand Rapids, Mich. 

• Poured in eight goals to set an Alma record for goals in a game in 18-5 win over Heidelberg March 15, adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers

• Added five points (4 goals, 1 assist) in win over Northland College March 18, scoring on all four shots on goal

Audrey Park, Hope

Senior, D
Ann Arbor, Mich. 

• Tallied seven ground balls and four caused turnovers in one-goal contest against unbeaten Illinois Tech March 15

• Her caused turnovers total was a team high while her ground balls effort was a game-best total

Offensive Player of the Week


Kate Kelly, Saint Mary's

Orland Park, Ill. 

• In three contests last week, averaged 3.0 goals while shooting 60.0 percent, with 80.0 percent in shots on goal; had 20 draw controls in three games

• Had four ground balls to go with three goals an an assist in contest against Western Connecticut State March 16

New Albany, Ohio

• Had a complete-game win over previously nationally-ranked Marietta March 17, extending his streak of no walks to 24 innings

• Struck out five while scattering 10 hits with just one earned run

Position Player of the Week


Drew Palmer, Trine

Senior, OF
Hartford, Wis. 

• Scored in seven of eight games played last week, aiding Trine to 5-3 record on the week

• Batted .484 with .528 OBP and 1.000 slugging on the week while compiling a current seven-game hitting streak

• Against Utica March 14, went 4-for-5 at the plate with seven RBI and one run scored in 16-7 win

Pitcher of the Week


Danielle Ray, Trine

Freshman, P
Hamilton, Ohio

• In six appearances, went 3-0 with three saves and a 1.37 ERA in aiding Trine remain unbeaten on the year

• Against Top 10 teams faced last week, gave up seven hits over 15 innings with 10 strikeouts

• In 2.2 innings of relief against Ramapo March 14, struck out seven batters in 2-0 win

Softball

 

Position Player of the Week


Taylor Smith, Olivet

Senior, IF
Hope, Mich.

• In aiding Olivet to a 5-1 week, batted .429 with a 1.048 slugging percentage with hits in five of six games

• Totalled four home runs and 14 RBI while scoring five runs with just one strikeout in 22 plate appearances

• Tallied a 4-for-5 day at the plate with six RBI, two home runs and three runs scored in 9-6 win over UW-River Falls March 14

• Was a winner in both singles and doubles against Edgewood College, winning at No.3 doubles, 8-3

• Tallied a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles

• Was a winner in both singles and doubles in Hope victory over Edgewood College

• Notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles to go with 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles

• Placed third in the discus (43.69m) at the Emory Invitational, ranking 13th nationally

• Also placed ninth in the shot put (13.08m)

• Won the 10,000m run at the Emory Invitational with a time of 31:44.44

• His time ranks fifth nationally in the event

• Turned in MIAA bests in long jump (4.89m) and triple jump (10.43m) at Emory Invitational

• Also competed in 100m dash, 200m dash, and 400m relay at the event

Wheaton, Ill.

• At the Emory Invitational, won the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:50.20

• Not only was her effort a venue record, but is the fastest in the NCAAs this season
