MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for March 6

On Monday, the MIAA awarded 10 weekly honors for standout performances in men's and women's tennis, men's and women's lacrosse, baseball, and softball.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for March 6 are:

• Jake Ellens, Alma (Men’s Lacrosse Offense)
• Nikki Reece, Alma (Women’s Lacrosse Defense)
• Emily Cefaratti, Calvin (Women’s Lacrosse Offense)

• Improved to 5-0 in singles this season with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Denison's Kevin Brown

• Added an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles to improve to 12-1 overall on the year

Traverse City, Mich.

• Against nationally-ranked Denison March 4, went 2-0 to help Hope to a 7-2 victory

• Posted a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles along with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles

Defensive Player of the Week


Adam Cousineau, Alma

Sophomore, D
Canton, Mich. 

• Aided Alma to a 2-1 record on the week, with 12 ground balls and seven caused turnovers, including five GB and six caused turnovers against Hendrix March 1

• Against Elmhurst March 4, gathered four ground balls, including a critical ground ball late in helping the Scots complete a 10-9 come-from-behind win

Offensive Player of the Week


Jake Ellens, Alma

Sophomore, M
Cadillac, Mich. 

• Had at least one goal and one assist in each of three games for Alma during a 2-1 week

• Registered four goals and one assist in 15-13 come-from-behind win at Southwestern (Texas) Feb. 27 

• Tallied one goal and one assist to go with four ground balls in aiding Alma to 10-9 victory over Elmhurst March 4

Defensive Player of the Week


Nikki Reece, Alma

Freshman, M
Livonia, Mich. 

• In 12-11 road win over Puget Sound Feb. 28, posted six draw controls and three caused turnovers to go with two assists

• Had one caused turnover and two draw controls with two ground balls at Linfield March 1, with her three goals aiding in 5-4 road win

• Registered five goals - all in the final 23 minutes - against Georgetown (Ky.) March 4 on seven shots, with six shots on goal

• Had four goals with four draw controls in 16-5 victory at Asbury March 3

New Albany, Ohio

• Struck out 15 in a two-hit complete game shutout against Transylvania March 4; that effort is second-best in the NCAA this season and among top five performances in Adrian history

• Against Berry Feb. 26, struck out three with no walks in six innings of work in 4-2 setback on the road

• In three wins for Kalamazoo last week, went 6-of-11 from the plate with four walks and just one strikeout

• Went 3-for-4 with two walks, three runs and one RBI in Kalamazoo win over Spalding March 5

• Notched a 2-for-4 effort with two runs, a double and one walk in 5-3 win at Central (Iowa) March 5

Pitcher of the Week


Morgan Stratton, Alma

Senior, P
Grand Blanc, Mich.

• Went 3-1 in four appearances in the circle with an ERA of 0.81 with 28 strikeouts in those four games

• In 1-0 win over Cabrini Feb. 28, fired 10 strikeouts to one walk while giving up two hits in complete-game shutout

• Struck out nine in seven innings of work in 8-3 win over Augustana March 3

Softball

 

Position Player of the Week


Riley Terwilliger, Alma

Sophomore, 3B/SS
Mount Pleasant, Mich.

• In a 7-1 week for Alma, batted .458 (11-for-24) with six runs, three extra-base hits, three stolen bases and three walks

• Against UM-Dearborn March 2, went 4-for-5 with a run, a triple, and four RBI to aid in 12-5 win 

• Went 2-for-3 with three runs, a double, a stolen base and one RBI in 12-4 win vs. Wartburg Feb. 27
