MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for Feb. 20

On Monday, the MIAA awarded eight weekly honors for standout performances in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, softball, men's lacrosse, and men's and women's track and field.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for Feb. 20 are:

• Will Dixon, Trine (Men’s Basketball)
• Brandi Dawson, Trine (Women’s Basketball)
• Brandon Wolliston, Hope (Men’s Indoor Track)
• Kimberly Barber, Olivet, Calvin (Women’s Indoor Field)
• Rachel Satkiewicz, Hope (Women’s Indoor Track)
• Daniel Henry, Kalamazoo (Men’s Tennis)
• Monica Davy, Saint Mary’s (Women’s Tennis)
• Kyle DeCamp, Albion (Men’s Lacrosse Defense)
• David DiRado, Albion (Men’s Lacrosse Offense)
• Erin DuRoss, Kalamazoo (Softball Pitcher)

Men's Basketball

 

Player of the Week


Will Dixon, Trine

Senior, G
Indianapolis, Ind.

• Averaged 26.0 points and 6.0 assists in two MIAA wins that secured Trine an MIAA postseason berth last week

• In win over Olivet Feb. 15, notched 27 points whiel adding six assists, three steals, and two rebounds to give Trine control of their postseason destiny

• In Feb. 18 win at Albion, scored 25 points, aided by 11-of-11 effort at the free throw line, while adding six assists with just one turnover in 37 minutes of play

Player of the Week


Brandi Dawson, Trine

Sophomore, G
Garrett, Ind.

• Averaged 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in two MIAA road wins that helped Trine win their first MIAA regular season title for women's basketball

• At #8 Hope Feb. 18, scored 21 points, including eight in the first quarter, as the Thunder jumped to a 23-12 lead and never looked back; added three steals in the win

• Against Alma Feb. 15, scored 16 points in just 20 minutes while shooting 7-of-8 from the field

• Took first place in the 400m dash at Grand Valley State Tune-Up Feb. 18

• His time of 48.87 set a new Hope record for the event

Kimberly Barber, Olivet

Sophomore
Gobles, Mich.

• Reset her school record in the triple jump at the Hillsdale Tune-Up Feb. 18, placing third with a jump of 10.46m

• Added a long jump effort of 5.19m and ran the 60m dash in 8.23

• Set a new school record in the 400m dash at the Grand Valley State Tune-Up Feb. 18 with a time of 58.91

• Also was part of first-place 4x400m relay team at the event

Daniel Henry, Kalamazoo

Freshman
Kalamazoo, Mich.

• Went 4-0 on the week in two non-conference victories for Kalamazoo, winning at No. 2 single and No. 3 doubles 

• Against #35 Coe College, was an 8-4 winner at No. 3 doubles in the lone doubles win for the Hornets; then added a 3-6, 6-1, 7-2 tiebreaker win at No. 2 singles to help Kalamazoo to a 5-4 win

Morris, Ill.

• Helped Saint Mary's go 2-1 on the week, with wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with wins over Wittenberg and Saint Francis

• Was unbeaten at No. 1 doubles in three events

Defensive Player of the Week


Kyle DeCamp, Albion

Junior
Howell, Mich. 

• Went 16-of-23 in faceoffs for a 69.6 winning percentage in Albion's 13-11 win over Wooster Feb. 18, the first win for Albion against Wooster

• Added six groundballs and three shots on goal, resulting in a goal for the Brits

David DiRado, Albion

Northville, Mich. 

• Had three goals and three assists in Albion's win over Wooster Feb. 18

• Marks just the fourth time in his career with more than six points in a game

Erin DuRoss, Kalamazoo

Onsted, Mich. 

• Despite a 1-0 loss to Concordia Feb. 17, gave up just one hit in a complete game effort

• Struck out two with just one walk while adding an assist defensively

Hayleigh Alamo, Kalamazoo

Sophomore
Colorado Springs, Colo.

• In a 0-2 week for Kalamazoo, went 3-for-7 at the plate with a double and one RBI; went 3-for-4 against Cleary Feb. 17

• Defensively, caught one-hitter in 1-0 loss against Concordia Feb. 17; then tallied three assists in contest against Cleary
