MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for Feb. 13

On Monday, the MIAA awarded eight weekly honors for standout performances in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's track and field.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for Feb. 13 are:

• Dante Hawkins, Hope (Men’s Basketball)
• Ali Spayde, Calvin (Women’s Basketball)
• Jephte Jean Claude, Albion (Men’s Indoor Field)
• Jordan Kramer, Calvin (Men’s Indoor Track)
• Jenna Dyksen, Calvin (Women’s Indoor Field)
• Kimberly Barber, Olivet (Women’s Indoor Track)
• Dave Brown, Calvin (Men’s Tennis)
• Lauren Rasmussen, Albion (Women’s Tennis)


Men's Basketball

 

Player of the Week


Dante Hawkins, Hope

Junior, G
Holland, Mich.

• Was a key factor in helping Hope secure the 2017 MIAA regular season title with a 2-0 week by averaging 20.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game

• Had a game-high 24 points and helped Hope recover from a halftime deficit to win in overtime against Trine Feb. 8

• Led Hope with a career-high seven assists while adding 16 points in team's victory at Adrian Feb. 11.

Women's Basketball

 

Player of the Week


Ali Spayde, Calvin

Junior, G
Lewis Center, Ohio

• Averaged 16.0 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game to aid Calvin to a 2-0 week in MIAA play

• Scored a team-high 20 points in win at Adrian Feb. 11, helping the Knights post their 20th win of the season

• Added 12 points and four assists in win at Olivet Feb. 8

Jephte Jean Claude, Albion

Sophomore
Traverse City, Mich.

• Won the triple jump at the Aquinas Small Meet Feb. 10 with an MIAA-best jump of 43 feet, 10.75 inches; that effort is ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region

• Added a victory in the 60m hurdles (8.68) at the Aquinas Small Meet

Jordan Kramer, Calvin

Senior
Pewaukee, Wis.

• Ran a personal best in the 5,000m run at the Grand Valley State meet Feb. 10 with a time of 14:39.15

• His time in the 5,000m ranks sixth nationally this season

Athlete of the Week


Jenna Dyksen, Calvin

Junior
Hawthorne, N.J.

• Was the winner in the long jump at the Aquinas Small Meet Feb. 10, turning in an effort of 18 feet, 1.5 inches

• Her jump ranks best in the MIAA this season, best in the Great Lakes Region, and 20th in the nation

Women's Indoor Track

 

Athlete of the Week


Kimberly Barber, Olivet

Sophomore
Gobles, Mich.

• Posted two Olivet records while competeing at Defiance's Dick Small Invitational Feb. 10; jumped for a program-best 33 feet, 10 inches in the triple jump, and set Olivet record in 60m dash (8.12)

• Won the event's long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 10.75 inches which is among MIAA leaders this season

• In two singles and two doubles wins last week, lost just three games in aiding Calvin to two team victories

• At No. 2 singles against Concordia (Mich.) Feb. 11, had a 6-0, 6-2 straight-set win while notching an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles

Lauren Rasmussen, Albion

Senior
Ann Arbor, Mich.

• At No. 1 singles against Wittenberg Feb. 11, tallied a tie-breaker win to help the Brits to a team victory; won 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (11-9)

• Competed at No. 1 doubles, earning an 8-2 victory
