MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for Feb. 6

On Monday, the MIAA awarded 10 weekly honors for standout performances in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's track and field.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for Feb. 6 are:

• Jake Burris, Albion (Men’s Diving)

• Mary Noble, Albion (Women’s Swimming)
• Marisa DeCamp, Albion (Women’s Diving)
• Noah Bailey, Olivet (Men’s Indoor Field)
• Jordan Davis, Adrian (Men’s Indoor Track)
• Jenna Dyksen, Calvin (Women’s Indoor Field)

Men's Basketball

 

Player of the Week


Chad Carlson, Hope

Senior, G
Rockford, Mich.

• Helped Hope stay undefeated in MIAA play with a 2-0 week, averaging 22.5 points and an assist/turnover ratio of 7:1

• Poured in career-high 30 points on 10-of-17 shooting from three-point range against Olivet Feb. 1; his 10 makes sets a new Hope record for made threes in a game

• Averaged 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals, playing 77 of a possible 80 minutes with just one turnover

Player of the Week


Emily Zgoda, Albion

Senior, G
Wyandotte, Mich.

• Set Albion records for points in a game (44) and made three-pointers in a game (13) against Olivet Feb. 1

• Her total of 13 made three-pointers is tied for the best this season among all three NCAA divisions; her 44-point total ranks fourth in Division III this year

• Finished the week shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 61.9 percent from three-point range while adding 3.5 rebounds per game

• Set a pair of Albion pool records in final home meet of the season Feb. 3 against Olivet

• Swam the 200 free in a pool-record time of 1:41.57

• Followed up with record-setting swim in 100 back, touching in 51.60

Jake Burris, Albion

Chelsea, Mich.

• Broke own record on the 1-meter board in MIAA dual against Olivet Feb. 3, scoring a 317.10 for six dives

• Also was victorious in the 3-meter board, winning with an MIAA-season best 334.05

Midland, Mich. 

• Swam the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay team in Albion's win over Olivet Feb. 3

• Also swam two season-best times in the 200 free and 100 free

Women's
Diving 

 

Diver of the Week


Marisa DeCamp, Albion

Sophomore
Howell, Mich. 

• Was a two-time event winner for Albion in MIAA dual meet win over Olivet Feb. 3

• Her 1-meter diving score of 219.89 was within one point of her season best, while her 3-meter of 214.20 was a career high

• Set a school record in the triple jump in his first-ever meet competition in the event with a distance of 12.98m to rank first in the MIAA

• Also posted a long jump of 6.59m, just off his season best which ranks second in the MIAA

Men's Indoor Track

Ottawa Lake, Mich.

• Won the 60m hurdles (8.43) to rank first in the MIAA and finished fifth in the 200m dash (23.28) at Joe Banks Invitational Feb. 4

• Also finished first in high jump (2.00m) and fourth in long jump (6.24m) at the meet

Women's Indoor Field

 

Athlete of the Week


Angela Morrison, Albion

Senior
Westland, Mich.

• Finished third in the pentathlon at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic Feb. 3-4 with a score of 3176, which is first in the MIAA and eighth nationally

• During the pentathlon competition, her 60m hurdles (9.37) time and high jump (1.53m) moved into second in MIAA performance list

Women's Indoor Track

Jenna Dyksen, Calvin

Junior
Hawthorne, N.J.

• Ran the 60m hurdles in 9.00 to rank first in MIAA and seventh in NCAA Division III at Hall of Fame Classic Feb. 4

• Added a win in the triple jump with a mark of 11.15m, which also ranks first in the MIAA
