MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for Jan. 30

On Monday, the MIAA awarded nine weekly honors for standout performances in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's track and field.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for Jan. 30 are:

• Harrison Blackledge, Hope (Men’s Basketball)
• Sadia Johnson, Adrian (Women’s Basketball)
• Sharif Shaker, Kalamazoo (Men’s Swimming)
• Colin Grogan, Kalamazoo (Men’s Diving)

• Colleen Orwin, Kalamazoo (Women’s Swimming)
• Madeline Woods, Kalamazoo (Women’s Diving)
• Jeffery Barnett, Trine (Men’s Indoor Field)
• Kara Eck, Trine (Women’s Indoor Field)
• Hannah Garn, Alma (Women’s Indoor Track)


Men's Basketball

 

Player of the Week


Harrison Blackledge, Hope

Senior, F
Canton, Ohio

• Averaged 27.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for Hope; also was 14-of-14 from the free throw line

• Poured in 29 points thanks to 11-of-11 free throw shooting and 8-of-11 from the field against Albion Jan. 28

• Notched 25 points with seven rebounds to help Hope to their biggest win oer Calvin in The Rivalry series since 1996

Sadia Johnson, Adrian

Freshman, G
Kalamazoo, Mich.

• Averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals to help Adrian go 2-0 against MIAA opponents

• In 52-50 road win over Olivet Jan. 28, had game-sealing steal and free throws in the waning seconds of the contest to go with 22 points 

• Had an all-around effort in Adrian's win over Kalamazoo Jan. 25, scoring 21 points with eight rebounds and two steals

Swimmer of the Week

Sophomore
Castro Valley, Calif. 

• In Kalamazoo's dual with Calvin, was a two-time individual winner and added a relay victory

• Touched first in the 200 butterfly (1:59.62) and 500 free (4:55.71)

• Anchored Kalamazoo's 200 free relay team with a split of 21.58

Colin Grogan, Kalamazoo

Grand Rapids, Mich.

• Was a two-time winner for Kalamazoo in the Hornets' dual meet with Calvin

• Won the 1-meter with a score of 296.40 and added a victory in the 3-meter with a mark of 255.45

Swimmer of the Week


Colleen Orwin, Kalamazoo

Senior
Portage, Mich. 

• Won all four events she swam in Kalamazoo's dual with Calvin Jan. 28

• Individually, won the 100 fly (59.91), 200 fly (2:14.83) and 400 IM (4:44.43)

• Also swam the butterfly leg of Kalamazoo's winning 200 medley relay team in 26.48

• Won the 3-meter event in Kalamazoo's dual with Calvin Jan. 28 with a score of 258.30

• Finished second in the 1-meter event (251.90)

Fremont, Ohio

• After setting Trine's school record in the long jump last week, re-set his career best with jump of 7.61m to rank first nationally

• His distance (24 feet, 11.75 inches) is believed to be the sixth-longest jump in NCAA Division III history

• Set the Trine record in the weight throw at the Findlay Classic and Elite Throws Competition Jan. 28 in a field that included Division I and Division II competitors

• Her throw of 17.58m is sixth in the NCAA this season

Women's Indoor Track

 

Athlete of the Week


Hannah Garn, Alma

Junior
Charlotte, Mich.

• Won her first collegiate race and posted a lifetime PR of 19:21.30 in the 5,000m at the Defiance Invitational 

• Her time was 38 seconds ahead of the second place finisher and was a personal best by 20 seconds
