MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for Nov. 21

On Monday, the MIAA awarded four weekly honors for standout performances in men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's and women's swimming and diving.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for Nov. 21 are:

• Harrison Blackledge, Hope (Men's Basketball)
• Francesca Buchanan, Hope (Women's Basketball)
• Brett Stoughton, Calvin (Men’s Swimming/Diving)
• Anna Serino, Calvin (Women’s Swimming/Diving)

Player of the Week


Harrison Blackledge, Hope

Senior, F
Canton, Ohio

• Led Hope to a 2-0 week on the road to start the 2016-17 season

• Scored 34 points on 15-of-18 shooting, including 2-for-2 from three-point range, to lead Hope to a 90-81 win over UW-River Falls Nov. 19

• Just missed a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds in season-opening win at UW-Stout Nov. 18 while adding two blocks, two steals, and three assists.

Francesca Buchanan, Hope

Sophomore, F/C
Grant, Mich. 

• Was a key factor in Hope posting three wins on the week, including their 99-97 overtime win against #21 Wheaton Nov. 15

• Scored 27 points thanks to a team-record tying 12 field goals in the victory over Wheaton

• Averaged 18.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game over three games, including a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in just 17 minutes over Finlandia Nov. 18

Brett Stoughton, Calvin

Senior
Centerville, Ind.

• Aided Calvin in MIAA win over Alma Nov. 19 by winning the 100 fly and 100 breast while also swimming a leg of the winning 200 medley relay team

• Against NCAA Division II Wayne State Nov. 18, finished second in 100 fly with a time of 52.78

• Also swam 100 back against Wayne State in short turnaround time as well as posting a 23.7 split in the fly on the team's medley relay

Sophomore
Pinckney, Mich. 

• Against Division II Wayne State Nov. 18, won the 1650 free with a time of 18:50.9, just missing her season-best effort

• Has the best time in the MIAA in the 1650 free this season

• Also swam the 100 fly against the Warriors, touching fourth with a time of 1:02.47
