MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for Oct. 31

On Monday, the MIAA awarded 11 weekly honors for standout performances in football, volleyball, men's soccer, men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's swimming and diving.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for Oct. 31 are:

• Jenna Lodewyk, Calvin (Volleyball Specialist)
• Nick Strait, Alma (Men’s Soccer Defensive)
• Bobby McCaw, Calvin (Men’s Soccer Offensive)
• Jordan Kramer, Calvin (Men’s Cross Country)
• Erin Herrmann, Hope (Women’s Cross Country)

Player of the Week


Rayshawn Robinson, Albion

Sophomore, CB
Jackson, Mich.

• Was a key factor defensively in Albion's 63-20 win over Rockford Oct. 29

• Wrapped up five tackles and one interception, which he returned 42 yards for a touchdown

• Was his first interception returned for a touchdown of his collegiate career

Player of the Week


Mike Miklusicak, Hope

Junior, RB
Wayland, Mich.

• Posted 221 all-purpose yards in Hope's 31-6 win over Kalamazoo Oct. 29

• Rushed for 166 yards on 21 carries, scoring three touchdowns

• Averaged 7.9 yards per carry 

• Added 55 yards on two kick returns, including a 37-yard return

• On special teams, had a blocked punt in the second quarter in 31-6 win over Kalamazoo Oct. 29 to set up a field goal opportunity

• Also had several punt pressures

Meaghan Gibbons, Saint Mary's

Dallas, Texas 

• Helped Saint Mary's go 3-0 in the final week of regular season competition with three straight-set wins

• Hit .282, including .375 with 15 kills in win over Albion Oct. 28

• On the week, averaged 4.33 kills per set

• Added 3.56 digs per set to go with seven blocks and four service aces

Specialist of the Week


Jenna Lodewyk, Calvin

Junior, S
Villa Park, Ill.

• Was instrumental in Calvin securing the MIAA regular season title as the Knights went 3-0 to remain unbeaten on the season

• Averaged 9.0 assists per set, including 11.7 on 35 assists against Alma Oct. 25

• Had 40 serves on the week, serving for 95 percent accuracy while dropping in seven service aces

• Added 1.27 kills and 2.36 digs per set

Men's Soccer

Player of the Week

Nick Strait, Alma

Jenison, Mich.

• Posted back-to-back shutouts in the final week of regular season play to aid Alma in securing the No. 2 seed for the MIAA Tournament

• Made nine saves in overtime shutout against Trine Oct. 25

• Finished with five saves against Adrian Oct. 29 in a match to decide the second seed for the postseason

• Had a two-goal effort, including the game-winner, in the road win at Albion Oct. 25

• Had the assist on the game-winning goal in the game's third minute against Trine Oct. 29

• Won the 2016 MIAA Men's Cross Country Championship

• Crossed the line for the 8K course in 25:38 for the victory

• Helped give Calvin their 30th consecutive MIAA men's cross country championship

• Took first place at the 2016 MIAA Women's Cross Country Championship

• Covered the 6K course in 21:37.9 to win by 20 seconds

• Aided Hope to the team title, the team's second consecutive championship

Estado de Mexico 

• Won three individual events in double dual meet with Ball State and Rose-Hulman Oct. 28

• Touched first in the 100 back (53.64), 200 back (1:57.75) and 200 IM (2:00.12) and was also a part of Albion's 200 medley relay team

• Competed in the 200 free and 200 back against nationally-ranked Washington (Mo.) and DePauw Oct. 29

• Achieved NCAA Regional Qualifying Scores on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards in meet vs. Olivet Oct. 29

• Her scores of 270.90 on the 1-meter and 268.80 on the 3-meter are the highest scores in the MIAA this season
