MIAA Announces Athletes of the Week for Oct. 3

On Monday, the MIAA awarded 13 weekly honors for standout performances in football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's golf.

Earning MIAA Player of the Week honors for Oct. 3 are:

• Helped hold Hope to just 13 points in road victory for Olivet

• Finished with five solo tackles and seven total for the night

• Added two tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks

Offensive
Player of the Week


Danny Hugan II, Alma

Junior, WR
Ann Arbor, Mich.

• Was an integral part of Alma's offense that posted 56 points on MIAA foe Kalamazoo Oct. 1

• Had 153 receiving yards on seven receptions, averaging 21.9 yards per catch

• Finished with three touchdowns

• Finished with 169 all-purpose yards

Player of the Week


Connor Storms, Adrian

Junior, P
Flint, Mich.

• Had five punts in win over MIAA foe Albion Oct. 1, averaging 39.0 yards per punt

• Converted a fourth-down with a fake punt play in the 4th quarter, resulting in 15 yards and extended Adrian's drive

• Had a long of 55 yards that resulted in a touchback

Madelyn Notenbaum, Olivet

Hudsonville, Mich. 

• Had two triple-doubles for the week, including one against Adrian Sept. 28

• Added two double-doubles in kills and assists in helping Olivet go 4-0 at Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawk Invitational Sept. 30-Oct. 1

• Earned all-tournament team honors for her performance on the weekend

• Averaged 3.06 kills, 4.2 assists, and 3.3 digs per set

• Added seven service aces and 11 total blocks for the week

Specialist of the Week


Ami Milligan, Albion

Senior, S
Alpena, Mich.

• Led Albion to a 3-1 week, including a 3-0 weekend at Wilmington, Ohio

• Broke the career record for assists with her performance against Saint Mary's Sept. 28 (2,522) 

• Had two double-doubles of assists and sets, including a 23-dig, 20-assist effort against MIAA foe Saint Mary's

• Helped Albion to have two matches with over .200 team hitting percentage in wins over Wilmington (.238) and Capital (.241)

Player of the Week

Nate Van Ryn, Calvin

Grandville, Mich.

• Anchored #20 Calvin in two shutouts against MIAA foes in the top half of the league standings

• Had four saves in 1-0 win against Albion Oct. 1, giving Calvin an advantage in head-to-head tiebreakers against the second-place Brits

• Started the week with a three-save shutout at Alma Sept. 27 

• Calvin continued its shutout streak against MIAA opponents to six games

Detroit, Mich.

• Led Adrian offensively in a 2-0 week against MIAA opponents

• Scored the game-winning goal in shutout wins at Kalamazoo Sept. 27 and at Olivet Oct. 1

• His game-winner against Kalamazoo came in the 14th minute to set the tone; his match-winner at Olivet was also a first-half strike

• Was a key factor for Kalamazoo in a 2-0 week against MIAA opponents and finishing the first half of league play in first place

• Played every minute in the shutout wins

• Gave up just three shots in win over Albion Sept. 28

• Added an insurance goal in victory against Olivet Oct. 1

Kirsten Chambers, Adrian

Riverview, Mich.

• Scored three of Adrian's four goals for the week, helping the Bulldogs secure two MIAA victories

• Scored her first collegiate goal in 2-0 win at Saint Mary's Sept. 28

• Followed up with a two-goal effort in overtime victory against Albion Oct. 1

• Shook the nets in the 96th minute in win over Albion to move Adrian up two spots in the standings

• Tallied three goals on the week on just four shots

• At the Piane Invitational at Notre Dame Sept. 30 and in a field with NCAA Division I and Division II runners, was the top Division III finisher

• Finished the 8K course in 25:08 to take 18th individually

• Helped nationally-ranked Knights finish 10th out of 24 teams

Johanna Admiraal, Calvin

Freshman
Cincinnati, Ohio 

• Had a standout performance in just her fourth collegiate race, finishing 43rd overall at Piane Invitational Sept. 30 at Notre Dame

• In a field of 28 teams, including 25 Division I programs, was the second Division III finisher with a time of 18:00.8 in 5K event

• Aided the Knights in posting a 13th place finish against strong challengers

Men's Golf

 

Golfer of the Week


Grant Brettnacher, Trine

Freshman
Brookton, Ind.

• Tied for first at MIAA Jamboree #4, shooting a one-under 71 for his second medalist finish in first collegiate season

• Competed at Ryder Cup style Ken Venturi Invitational Oct. 1, pairing with a fellow freshman to score a 68 (-3) in the event

Women's Golf

 

Golfer of the Week


Megan Klintworth, Hope

Junior
Jackson, Mich. 

• Moved into the top spot in the MIAA for scoring average through four Jamboree rounds (77.3)

• Was the medalist with a two-stroke victory at Jamboree #3, setting a new course record with her three-over 75

• Followed up with a 76 at Jamboree #4, sharing medalist honors and helping Hope to a 6.0 stroke average lead in MIAA play through four rounds
