Kara Eck of Trine earned Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) on Tuesday for meets through May 2.

Eck, a sophomore from Auburn, Ind., earned field athlete weekly honors for the third time this season after recording a school-record hammer throw effort at the Hillsdale GINA Relays. The sophomore unleashed a throw of 179-1 inch to break her own school record by 10 feet. The throw is the fourth best in the event in NCAA Division III this year. Eck also placed third in the shot put that event with a throw of 45-8.5 to once again finish ahead of numerous performers from higher divisions in the NCAA. The distance marked her best throw in the event this year and stands second nationally.
