Mary Brooks of Alma garnered the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Softball Player of the Week honors on Monday for MIAA tournament games through May 7.
Brooks, a sophomore from Portland, claimed position player honors after some timely home runs and RBI last week in Alma’s run to the MIAA Softball Tournament Championship. Brooks scored both of the Scots’ runs in game one of the tourney against Saint Mary’s. She blasted her first home run to knot the game at 1-1 and then in the eight frame drilled another solo shot to end the game with a walk-off homer in the extra-inning 2-1 defeat of the Belles. Brooks secured Alma’s title with her championship-winning RBI single to score the only run of the 1-0 win over Trine in the final. She finished the week with a .308 average and a team-leading .769 slugging percentage.
