The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) named Jared Holmquist of Trine the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday for games through Nov. 22.

Holmquist, a senior forward from Reed City, scored a career high of 33 points in Trine’s 78-60 victory against North Park on Thursday. The point total also helped him eclipse the 1,000-point mark in his career. Holmquist posted a pair of double-double efforts last week to increase his career total to 14.

In the season opener, Holmquist posted game highs of 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Thunder to a 65-50 victory over Heidelberg. He went 8-of-16 from the floor and made all eight of his free throws from the charity stripe. Holmquist also added a pair of assists, two blocks and a steal to his final line.

Against North Park, Holmquist posted a field goal percentage of 60 percent on 12-of-20 shooting. He also made 9 of his 11 attempts at the free throw line. Holmquist turned in his second double-double performance by corralling 11 boards to go with his 33 tallies. He scored 18 of his career high total in the first 20 minutes. On defense Holmquist drew two charges on North Park’s leading scorer.
