Brock Benson, Hope, Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Brock Benson of Hope claimed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Award on Monday for games through Feb. 7. 

Benson, a senior from Willowbrook, Ill., posted a double-double during No. 7 Hope’s 71-57 victory over No. 12 Alma on Saturday night. The center poured in 15 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds while playing a game-high of 34 minutes on the floor to help the Flying Dutchmen climb into a tie with the visiting Scots atop the MIAA standings at 9-1.

During a 94-58 victory against Olivet earlier in the week, Benson scored 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. He also corralled a half dozen boards in 28 minutes of action on the court.

For the week, Benson averaged 15.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. He made 67 percent from the floor on 14-of-21 shooting and sank all three of his attempts from the free throw line. Additionally, he averaged 2.0 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.0 block per contest last week.
