Ben Wheaton, Trine, Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Ben Wheaton of Trine collected Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Baseball Player of the Week honors on Monday for games through March 13.

Wheaton, a sophomore from Kalamazoo, picked up pitcher of the week honors after helping Trine post its first team shutout since 2004 for a nine-inning game. He came on in relief to begin the third inning and held UMass Boston off the scoreboard to collect his first collegiate victory. Through seven innings of relief work, Wheaton held UMB scoreless on four hits. He also struck out four and issued two walks. Wheaton threw 92 pitches on the day with an impressive 60 strikes.
