Funeral Arrangements Announced For Hope Broadcaster Ron Wetherbee

Ron Wetherbee '58 is being remembered for the years he dedicated to Hope College and the Holland area. The former WYVN-FM 92.7/WHTC-AM 1450 sports broadcaster and Hall of Fame coach passed away on July 31 at the age of 78.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Rose Park Reformed Church, 14241 Rose Park Drive.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Monday, August 3, and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street in Zeeland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope College.

Mr. Wetherbee broadcast Hope football and basketball games for our broadcast partner at Midwest Communications, including the 2014 football season. He also called high school football and basketball games during retirement.

Mr. Wetherbee was a high school teacher and counselor for 36 years for West Ottawa Public Schools before retirement and a driver's training instructor for 42 years.

Mr. Wetherbee was a founding member of the football program at West Ottawa High School and was inducted into the West Ottawa and Michigan High School Coaches Hall of Fame.

Mr. Wetherbee was a member of Rose Park Reformed Church.

Mr. Wetherbee is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Vereeke) Wetherbee, children: Debra (Douglas) Shoultz of Troy, Brian (Annette) Wetherbee of Genoa City, WI, Timothy (Kimberly) Wetherbee of Lowell; grandchildren: Michelle (Nicholas) Bloom, Jenifer Shoultz, Jenna Wetherbee, Michael Wetherbee, Philip Wetherbee, Taylor Wetherbee; siblings: Norma (Carl) Walkley, Bill Wetherbee; in-laws: Caroline (Chet) Machiela, Junior (Beatrice) Vereeke, Harv (Harriet) Berens, Marilyn Watt, Alma Vereeke, David (Marilyn) Vereeke, Paul (Alice) Vereeke, Arlene Westveld, John (Gretchen) Vereeke.
