Nycz of Alma and Lowes of Albion Earn Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week Honors

Jared Nycz of Alma and Matt Lowes of Albion claimed Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors on Monday for games through May 1.

Nycz, a freshman from Elma, N.Y., earned offensive honors after compiling 18 points on four goals and 14 assists and set two single-game conference marks in a pair of wins last week. He posted an MIAA-record nine assists to tie the MIAA record for points in a game with 12. Nycz recorded five assists and a goal in Alma's 11-10 win at Adrian on Saturday to help the Scots defeat the Bulldogs for the first time in program history. This season, Nycz owns school records in points (80) and assists (45). Nationally, Nycz ranks among the top 20 players in NCAA Division III in points and assists per game.

Lowes, a sophomore from Scotts, collected defensive honors after limiting two of the league’s top scorers last weekend. He blanketed the top scoring threats from both Hope and Olivet on defense in a pair of league wins last week to help the Britons secure the MIAA regular season title. Along the way, Lowes scooped up five ground balls and caused a turnover in the contests.
