Calvin’s Pepper and Chalfant Recognized as Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week

Kelly Pepper and Ellis Chalfant of Calvin earned Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) women’s lacrosse Player of the Week honors on Monday following tournament games through May 8.

Pepper, a freshman from Wyckoff, N.J., claimed offensive honors after scoring seven goals and assisting on another in MIAA Tournament play last week. In a semifinal win over Hope, she scored a career-high five goals.  On the week, Pepper totaled seven goals on 14 shots and was 3-for-6 on free-position shot attempts. She also won two draws and was credited with one ground ball.

 

 

 

Chalfant, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., won defensive honors after backstopping a pair of MIAA Tournament wins for the Knights last week. She posted a goals against average of 8.50 while making 27 saves. In the championship win over Albion on Saturday, Chalfant came up with 12 saves including a pair of key stops in the closing minutes on Albion free position attempts allowing Calvin to maintain a one-goal lead. She owned a save percentage of .614 on the week. It marks the second straight week that Chalfant received the weekly honor.
