Kalamazoo’s Kozal Earns Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Honors

Emily Kozal of Kalamazoo earned Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday for games through Feb. 7.

Kozal, a sophomore from Ada, twice posted game-high scoring efforts in MIAA contests, as Kalamazoo split a pair of games last week. The guard scored 23 points during the Hornets’ 75-56 win over visiting Adrian on Saturday and tallied 22 points in a 67-50 setback to Olivet earlier in the week.

She lit up the scoreboard from beyond the arc in both contests sinking three treys against Olivet and four versus Adrian that resulted in a 63.6 percentage from long range. Kozal was also very good at the charity stripe, making 8-of-9 attempts over the two contests.

Last week Kozal averaged 22.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in an average of 26.5 minutes on the floor. She made 60 percent from the field on 15-of-25 shooting, including 7-of-11 from three-point range. Additionally, she averaged one steal in the pair of contests.
