Albion’s Meredith and Jean-Claude Sweep Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week Honors

Justin Meredith and Jephte Jean-Claude of Albion swept the Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) on Tuesday for meets through April 24.

Meredith, a senior from Detroit, earned track athlete honors by winning two sprints and anchoring a second-place relay squad at the Polar Bear Invitational at Ohio Northern last weekend. His sprint finishes each top the MIAA and rank among the top 10 times in Division III nationally this season. Meredith won the 100-meter dash in 10.64 to set a meet record and rank No. 3 in the country. He also took first in the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.54 to rate No. 9 nationally while setting a stadium record. He also anchored Albion’s second-place 4x100 meter relay team (43.26).

Jean-Claude, a freshman from Traverse City, claimed field athlete honors after winning the triple jump at the Polar Bear Invitational at Ohio Northern last weekend. His leap of 45-1.50 took first place honors by more than nine inches in a field of 13 jumpers. The jump ranks first the top five in the conference, all performed by Jean-Claude. He was also active on the track, winning the 110 meter hurdles (15.22) and running the second leg of Albion’s second-place 4x100 meter relay team.
