Over 50 Kids Attend Albion's SAAC Golf Clinic

ALBION, Mich. - Fifty-five local kids got the opportunity to try their hand at golf during the most recent free sports clinic hosted by Albion College Athletics and its Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The kids began with a series of golf-specific stretches to loosen their muscles. Then after being broken into two groups to facilitate all of the golfers, each kid got individualized swing and game analysis from the coaching staff and varsity golfers. Working on grip, stance and swing in one area, then chipping and putting in the other, kids learned all of the fundamentals of the game of golf.

Matt Falls, a junior from Carsonville, enjoyed the clinic a much as the kids.

"The golf clinic was really a great opportunity for me to bond, coach and have fun with the kids from Albion and the surrounding area."

Head Coach Jordan McArleton, the head men's and women's golf coach, was excited to utilize "SNAG" golf clubs, larger, plastic clubs that combine making the game easier and more fun for the younger crowd.

"The SNAG equipment is perfect for young kids for whom even kids sized clubs can be too long, heavy or just plain hard to hit. At such a young age, just getting the kids swinging a club, plastic or metal, and having them smile while hitting the ball is the real goal."
