Nine MIAA Women’s Golfers Named All-American Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) recently named nine Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) women’s golfers from four different institutions All-American Scholars for the 2014-15 season.

Olivet College and Saint Mary’s College led the way with three golfers apiece on the claimed All-American Scholar list. Allyson Schultz, Brooke Kastamo and Kirstin Langer represented Olivet while Janice Heffernan, Katie Zielinski and Kelsey Conkright earned the distinction at Saint Mary’s.

Additionally, Britni Gielow and Nicole Meyer from Hope College and Julia DeBelly from Trine University rounded out the All-American Scholar honorees.

All four schools competed at the MIAA Women's Golf Automatic Qualifier in April.

The criteria for selection are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The student-athlete must have a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average and she must have also competed in 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
