MIAA Student-Athletes, Teams Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Eight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) track and field programs earned All-Academic Team awards and 18 MIAA student-athletes garnered individual All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced Friday.

Eight programs from five MIAA schools claimed 2015 Division III All-Academic Track and Field Team laurels. Calvin, Hope and Olivet each claimed recognition for both their men and women’s squads. Adrian and Albion also earned honors on the women’s side. The Flying Dutchmen (3.47 GPA) led the men’s MIAA contingent while the Knights (3.27 GPA) led the women’s teams from the conference.

A total of 170 women’s squads and 99 men’s teams earned an All-Academic Team distinction nationally as a result of earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher.

Eighteen student-athletes, including nine women and nine men, from a total of seven MIAA schools received individual All-Academic accolades. Calvin led the conference with eight total honorees including a league-high four on the men’s side. Hope and Calvin each picked up four awards on the women’s side to lead the league. 

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards:

  • Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
  • Finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org 

A total of 297 men from 106 institutions and a total of 420 women from 127 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors nationally for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments.
