WEST OLIVE, Mich. – The Hope men’s golf team claimed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championship as the host institution at the Wuskowhan Players Club on Tuesday.

The Flying Dutchmen entered the final MIAA Jamboree with a 13-stroke lead over second-place Calvin. The Knights shaved off eight strokes with a first-place team round of 292 but Hope carded a round of 300 to hold off Calvin’s charge.

Over the course of eight jamborees in the fall season Hope accumulated a league-low total of 2,418. Calvin placed second overall with 2,423. Trine ended the season in third at 2,443. Kalamazoo claimed fourth overall with a total score of 2,481.

Next spring those four squads will compete for the league’s automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament to be determined by a 54-hole (three 18-hole rounds) tournament.

Cody Knapp of Trine earned Medalist honors at the final jamboree event with a low score of 70. Ben Hart of Olivet claimed the MIAA Sportsmanship voted on by his fellow competitors.

Knapp was one of the six All-MIAA First Team Selections along with teammate Connor Dwyer. Winton Munch and Kade Hoeksema represented Hope on the First Team Two Knights topped the final individual results as the Most Valuable Player Ben VanScoyk edged out teammate John Van Noord with an average stroke of 73.3 as both claimed First Team honors.

Three Kalamazoo golfers earned All-MIAA Second Team honors in Nick Ludka, Travis Veenhuis and David Smith. Hope’s Josh Gibson and Ben Kramer also attained Second Team accolades, as did Nick Hocker of Adrian.
