Adrian’s Smith and Calvin’s Meckes Earn Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week Honors

Takiyah Smith of Adrian and Michaela Meckes of Calvin earned Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) on Tuesday for meets through April 24.

Smith, a junior from Rochester, claimed track athlete honors after setting the school record in the 100 meter hurdles at the Al Owens Classic at Grand Valley State last weekend. She was the top Division III performer in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing sixth in a time of 14.83. Smith’s time set an Adrian record, ranks first in the conference and stands No. 27 nationally. She also ran the second leg of Adrian’s 4x100 meter relay that placed eighth overall as the top DIII squad. 

 

 

Meckes, a junior from Bay City, won field athlete honors after throwing the top discus distance in the league this season at the Al Owens Classic at Grand Valley State last weekend. Her throw of 132-3 placed No. 12 overall as the top Division III mark in the event. Besides topping the conference, the measurement also ranks No. 46 nationally.
