Hecklinski, Hazekamp and Kamp Earn Volleyball Player of the Week Awards

Saint Mary’s outside hitter Katie Hecklinski, Calvin outside hitter Maggie Kamp and Hope setter Lauren Hazekamp earned Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Volleyball Player of the Week Awards on Monday for matches through Sept. 27.

Hecklinski, a senior from South Bend, Ind., shared Player of the Week laurels with Kamp. She helped the Belles complete a 2-1 week. Hecklinski terminated 42 balls to average 4.2 kills per set and hit .317 for the week. She recorded a match high percentage of .458 in a 3-0 win against Kalamazoo. In a 3-1 setback to No. 14 Hope, Hecklinski led both teams with 18 kills and hit .304. She finished the week by notching her seventh double-double showing of the season against Olivet with 12 kills and 10 digs. 

 

 

Kamp, a senior from Orland Park, Ill., shared Player of the Week laurels with Hecklinski. It marked the second straight week that Kamp claimed Player of the Week honors for the No. 5 Knights during a 3-0 week. She posted a double-double performance with 20 kills and 15 digs in a 3-0 win over Albion on Tuesday. Kamp added 10 kills on Friday in a sweep of Alma and recorded 11 digs in a 3-0 win over Heidelberg to finish the week. Kamp hit .427 overall for the week.

 

 

Hazekamp, a senior from Fruitport, claimed the Specialty Player of the Week Award. She led No. 14 Hope to a 4-0 record last week with three double-double performances. Hazekamp began the week with 57 assists in a 3-1 win versus Adrian. She followed that up with 39 assists and 13 digs two days later against Saint Mary’s. In a doubleheader on Saturday she posted 24 assists and 14 digs against Kalamazoo and later made 32 helpers and defended 18 balls against Heidelberg.
