OLIVET, Mich. – Michael Lazusky has been named an assistant athletic director at Olivet College, according to an announcement by Athletic Director Ryan Shockey.

“I am very excited to be working at Olivet College as the assistant athletic director,” said Lazusky. “I believe my diverse experience as an academic advisor/assistant professor, academic and athletic administrator, and coach will allow me to assist the athletic department in many capacities. My ultimate goal is to help provide an environment to all student-athletes, in which they can mature and grow as an individual as well as continue to be competitive on the field or court.”

Lazusky comes back to Olivet after the 2015-16 academic year as a business teacher and assistant girls’ basketball coach at Prairie Heights High School in LaGrange, Indiana. Prior to that, he was the special teams’ coordinator/defensive backs coach for the Comets’ football team during the 2014 season. Before that, Lazusky had two stints on the football staff at Trine (Ind.) University. In 2002, he was the defensive coordinator and from 2007-13, he served as the assistant head coach. While there, the Thunder won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Between the two stints, Lazusky was the head football coach and head track and field coach at Hiram (Ohio) College from 2003-06. He has also coached football at Defiance (Ohio) College in 2001, Hillsdale College in 2000, Tri-State (Ind.) University in 1996-97 and Shippensburg (Pa.) University in 1994-95.

Lazusky also has a wealth of experience in administration and faculty at his stops. At Trine, he served as an assistant professor of business and regional campus director. At Hiram, Lazusky was an instructor in the sports sciences department and served on the athletic department management team as director of facility operations. At Defiance, Lazusky was an adjunct instructor in the sports sciences department. At Tri-State, he served as the coordinator of internships for the school of business. Lastly at Shippensburg, Lazusky was a graduate assistant in the department of athletics.

A native of Mahoney City, Pa., Lazusky earned a bachelor’s degree in business education and master’s degree in education from Shippensburg. While there, he started every game for four years (46 consecutive) on the offensive line for the Raiders. In 1993, Lazusky was the recipient of the Ray Ellis Fighting Heart award.

“Mike has a great skill set that will add value to our department and we are excited to have him on staff,” said Shockey. “His enthusiasm for college athletics and student-athletes will bring a new energy to the department.”

Lazusky lives in Angola, Indiana, with his wife, Kellie, and son, Dylan.
