FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Wednesday (July 19) the list of 1,247 student-athletes from the conference’s nine member institutions recognized as 2016-17 Academic Honor Roll selections. The total marks the second consecutive year the total of honorees surpassed 1,200 student-athletes.
“Once again, the student-athletes of the MIAA continue to demonstrate the importance of a well-rounded collegiate experience, and the volume of student-athletes that have achieved high academic standards remains an impressive accomplishment,” said MIAA Commissioner Penny Allen-Cook. “I am proud of the efforts our student-athletes put towards their success in all aspects of their collegiate experience.”
To be recognized, student-athletes must reach a 3.5 grade-point average for the academic year and earn a varsity letter in an MIAA-sponsored sport.
Six institutions increased their total of honored student-athletes from the 2015-16 academic year: Adrian, Albion, Alma, Calvin, Kalamazoo, and Saint Mary's. Adrian's 112 student-athletes in 2016-17 was 20 more than the previous season.

Of the 1,247 student-athletes recognized, 199 were multi-sport athletes, including 90 that earned a varsity letter in three sports in 2016-17.
